LEICESTER’S Lion Cubs produced a remarkable comeback to snatch a Super Heat victory away to the Steelers at Sheffield on Wednesday.
They found themselves 12 points behind after the opening six races but found themselves back level by the conclusion of Heat 13 following a run of four straight heat advantages.
The last of those saw Cooper Rushen and Ben Trigger both pull off stunning last lap manoeuvres to turn a 4-2 on its head.
Eli Meadows and guest Harry Fletcher then claimed the minor points in Heat 14 whilst Rushen and Max Perry took second and third in Heat 15 to set up the grand finale.
Team manager Jen Crossland opted to switch her method of attack for the Super Heat and was duly rewarded as Rushen and Trigged teamed up to deliver the goods once more on a great night of speedway in South Yorkshire.
Said Crossland: “The lads were absolutely brilliant and I’m so glad they got the result they deserved in the end.
“We didn’t get off to the best of starts, but the whole group worked together to try and turn things around, they dug really deep and they just kept chipping away at that deficit.
“They never know when they’re beaten and they never give up and it was great to see that team spirit shining through just like it has done on several occasions this year.”
The result moves the Lion Cubs up to second place in the WSRA National Development League with one fixture to go.
Meanwhile, Leicester’s senior team are set for their Grand Final trip to Ipswich on Thursday (October 9, 7.30pm) with the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership title on the line.
